As I mentioned before I’m in the process of installing IKEA Laminate flooring (link). I started the DIY process this past Friday night (May 9th). Below are the steps that I’ve taken so far as well as what I have left to complete the job… I’m probably about 85% complete with the laminate floor installation project.
Step 1.) I moved as much furniture out of the room. [complete]
Step 2.) Pull up the base boards around the room. [complete]
Step 3.) Pull up and cut the carpet into sections small enough to place into large trash bags. [complete]
Step 4.) Pull up and cut the carpet padding into small enough to place into large trash bags. [complete]
Step 5.) Tape board spacers onto wall to guide the laminate wood along the wall (seen in photo w/blue tape). [complete]
Step 6.) Place installation / padding board onto floor then tape them together. [complete]
Step 7.) Start to lay down laminate flooring from one side to another and cut where needed. The angle in my living room suck to cut as well as around door ways! [incomplete still needs about 1/4 of the room to fill]
Step 8.) Place the trim /border along the bottom of the floor. I’m going to go with a 4 inch version this time. The previous owners had the cheap 2 inch stuff throughout the whole place. [incomplete]
To fully complete steps 7 & 8 I must continue my IKEA laminate floor installation project next weekend. So be sure to check back next weekend to catch a glimpse of the completed laminate floor.

How did the installation go? We’re looking at installing the Ikea Tundra laminate & are wondering how well the click system works, quality of the floors, stuff like that.

The “cut where needed” part disturbs me. I’m looking at putting some similar stuff down. It looks very, very difficult.
I read your other post–I know you’re happy to be done with it. How many hours do you figure it took once you had the carpet up and were ready to go?
Ahh once i had the carpet up and the padding down I’d say it took about 10-12 hours to complete the laminate floor installation.. and that was with the angle cutting (my living room has angles in it)… now if i were to add the baseboards that would tack on another 4-6 hours… i hate cutting angles!! it was a 1 weekend job.. so it wasn’t too bad… I just procrastinated a bit and turned it into a few weekends.. hehehe…
I plan to install Ikea Tundra Laminate Flooring in my dining room / living room and continue the same floor into the powder-room area (room with dual sinks but no toilet/bath/etc.). I’ve already purchased the actual Tundra Flooring and Niva Fiberboard Lining.
Regarding the pre-installation, any thoughts on the following:
1. Purchasing the Niva Polyethylene Liner (comes in roll) and placing this in between the Niva Fiberboard Liner and the Tundra flooring?
2. Doing the same thing but instead of the Niva Polyethylene Liner, use the Sparra Vapor Barrier - again above the Niva Fiberboard but below the Tundra Laminate?
I’m attempting to add further protection from spills once the floors are already down.
@ Marc… I was contemplating on going with the Tundra Flooring however, I was on a tight tight budget (the tundra is much nicer). When it comes to my thought on question 1… that’s not a bad idea.. it also would give it a softer step I would think… it’s like double padding in a way. As for question 2… I don’t know how the vapor barrier stuff would work.. because depending upon the flooring under the fiberboard (i’m assuming concrete) it might lock any mositure under the vapor barrier stuff and possibly cause mold on the fiberboard… I would double check with the IKEA flooring professional to confirm that though… thanks visiting the site..!
