Is wood the new black when it comes to design? I’ve been noticing a bunch of websites that have made the switch to a “wood background” for their blog or website. Some people like it some people don’t. The reason I love to use a wood image as my background is because, it allows me to have a virtual piece of something real (a tree) on my website… some people like birds others like mountains. It’s just something I like and I believe is a little creative in a way… it’s not everyday you come across a site that has a wood background unless you subscribe to my RSS feed and visit my site daily. I use a wood-look theme on my fishing blog (in sig link). It’s a modified version of a theme called “Wood Press”. I had to modify it a bit for SEO purposes and it still needs more work but it does OK.
One thing about these themes is that the background graphics can cause a slow load time so you need to watch this closely if you use one.
i agree with the “loading time” issue… i try to find a wood background image that is low resolution but, looks good enough to use…
the secret is to change the mode to index in photoshop and save as a gif

I think the wood backgrounds are getting more and more use, they look really estetic and we can get rid of bored simple backgrounds. I dont matter about the loading time.
